Electrolysis Hair Removal

Invented over 100 years ago in the United States of America, Electrolysis hair removal refers to one of the most effective methods of Permanent hair removal. This method involves the insertion of a needle into the skin to reach to the root of the hair follicle and sending electrical pulse or radio wave through it. The electrocution helps in destroying the hair from its root if that particular hair follicle is in the active growth stage at the time of the treatment. The energy of the current destroys the hair follicle which prevents it from growing back. However, if the hair follicle is not at active growth stage during the treatment there are chances of the hair growing back.

The three basic types of Electrolysis hair removal treatments include Thermolysis, Galvanic and Blend. During the Thermolysis procedure a radio wave is used to generate heat and send current to the hair follicle through the inserted needle. The Galvanic procedure involves an electro chemical current to produce a bit of lye and remove the hair roots. In order to produce an electro chemical reaction more quickly, these two methods are combined, and is known as Blend.

Usually, Electrolysis is associated with slight pain and discomfort. Depending on the coarseness of the hair being removed, the sensitivity of the area and the level of tolerance, this pain and discomfort may vary from one individual to another. However, the modern techniques and methods of Electrolysis have reduced the pain and discomfort to a great extent where the person only has a mere tingling sensation. Moreover, in some cases a topical anesthetic like ElaMax or EMLA can also be used to minimize the pain. A lot of time has to be devoted to this procedure and thus some individuals may find it difficult to go through the pain or discomfort associated with it.

Electrolysis hair removal is quite expensive with the average charges of most electrologists ranging between $45 and $125 for one hour. The total cost can thus be calculated roughly by multiplying the hourly rates by the number of hours an electrologist will devote to remove unwanted hair from each area. The denser the hair growth of a particular area the more the time and money need to be invested to clean up that area. For example a man’s back hair removal may take several hours while the upper lip area can be cleaned in just an hour or so. Therefore, the charges of both the areas will also vary automatically. Moreover, you might need multiple sessions to ensure complete removal of the hair as there are multiple factors influencing hair growth and the frequency may vary from one individual to another. However, once the treatment sessions are complete you can enjoy a hair free life forever. Many prefer to opt for Electrolysis after a series of Laser treatment to clear off the left out hairs after Laser.

Electrolysis can be used for removing hair from most of the areas including legs, face, eyebrows, breasts, abdomen and thighs. No major or permanent side effect is associated with it. However, you may experience a slight reddening of the skin for a short time during or immediately after the treatment. Unlike bleaches and depilatories it does not pose any risk of chemical reaction on the skin.
