Pubic Hair Removal

Pubic hair removal is popular among both the modern Western and traditional societies such as Hindu and Islam. While some prefer leaving some of their pubic hair to give it different shapes and forms, some prefer to remove all. Various methods and techniques are employed for pubic hair removal which may include waxing, shaving, tweezing and trimming. While waxing is popular for reducing hair growth over the time, shaving is popular for being one of the cheapest and easiest solutions. On the other hand, tweezing can be useful for removing some of the hair fibers, although is it not enough for removing all the pubic hair. Discussed below are some of the common and popular methods of pubic hair removal.

Waxing

To ensure that there is no allergic reaction or acute sensitivity, test a small area of the skin first.

Do not wet the hair before waxing as the hair becomes soft once it is wet and thus it becomes less likely to adhere properly to the wax. It is easier to pull off tough hairs while waxing.

Unless the hair is at least 1/8 inches long, do not wax.

Remove any oils or lotion by washing and drying well before waxing so that the wax adheres to the skin properly.

Test the heated wax on a small area first to ensure the heat level and that it does not burn the skin while waxing.

Exfoliate the skin within 24 to 48 hours after waxing pubic hair. Accumulation of the dead skin may cause ingrown hair.

Try to avoid tight fitting clothes on freshly waxed areas to prevent ingrown hairs and irritation.

Shaving & Trimming

Old fashioned switch blade razors can be dangerous for pubic hair removal and thus always try to opt for a good quality razor; even if it is a bit more expensive than the regular safety razors. The pubic area is very sensitive and cheap razors may cause razor burns, soreness and nicks.

Use a small scissor to trim down thick pubic hair for about a quarter of an inch to avoid clogging and blunting of the razor too soon.

Pubic hair is coarser than head hair and so it is essential to soften it before shaving it. In order to do so, take a long hot bath or stay in the shower for a longer time before shaving. Alternatively, you can also lay a wet washcloth over the entire pubic area for a few minutes before shaving.

Apply a good quality shaving gel or foam on the area and wait for few more minutes to let the hair soften further. Then shave the area without applying pressure by pulling the skin straight. Do not use ordinary soap for pubic hair removal; it does not lock in the moisture as a shaving gel does.

Keep rinsing the razor after every couple of strokes to avoid clogging.

Once shaving is complete, massage unscented Vitamin E oil or Aloe Vera on the area. You can also use baby oil. Rub an ice cube over the area to reduce or prevent itching after shaving.

Let the hair grow back before you shave again in case you experience excessive itchiness or blood spots.
